Airport Transfers in Saint Lucia: UVF vs SLU Explained

Saint Lucia has two airports, and which one you fly into makes a significant difference to your journey to Soufrière. Here is everything you need to know to plan a smooth, stress-free arrival.

The Two Airports

Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) — Vieux Fort

Hewanorra is Saint Lucia's main international airport, located at the southern tip of the island near the town of Vieux Fort. Most long-haul flights from the UK, US, Canada, and Europe arrive here.

Distance from Soufrière: Approximately 40 km (25 miles) Transfer time: 45–60 minutes by private transfer Transfer cost from us: From USD $75 per vehicle

Despite being the closer airport to Soufrière geographically, the journey involves winding mountain roads, which is why it takes a little longer than you might expect. The drive is scenic and beautiful — a great introduction to the island.

George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) — Castries

George F.L. Charles Airport is a smaller regional airport located in the capital, Castries, in the north of the island. It handles inter-island flights from Barbados, Martinique, Trinidad, and other Caribbean destinations, as well as some charter flights.

Distance from Soufrière: Approximately 35 km (22 miles) Transfer time: 60–90 minutes by private transfer Transfer cost from us: From USD $90 per vehicle

Although SLU is slightly closer to Soufrière in distance, the journey takes longer because it involves navigating through Castries traffic and then the winding west coast road south.

Why Book a Private Transfer?

Convenience and Comfort

After a long flight, the last thing you want is to negotiate with taxi drivers or wait for a shared minibus. A private transfer means your driver is waiting for you at arrivals with your name on a sign, your luggage goes straight into the vehicle, and you are on your way to Soufrière within minutes.

Fixed Pricing

Our transfers are priced per vehicle, not per person — so the more people in your group, the better value it becomes. There are no hidden charges, no meters, and no surprises.

Local Knowledge

Our drivers know every twist and turn of the road to Soufrière. They can point out landmarks, answer your questions about the island, and give you tips for your stay. It is the perfect start to your Saint Lucia experience.

Safety

Saint Lucia's roads, particularly in the south, can be challenging for those unfamiliar with them — narrow, winding, and driven on the left. Our drivers navigate them every day.

What to Expect on Arrival

At UVF (Hewanorra):

  1. Clear immigration and collect your luggage
  2. Exit through customs into the arrivals hall
  3. Your driver will be waiting with a sign bearing your name
  4. The drive to Soufrière takes approximately 45–60 minutes

At SLU (George F.L. Charles):

  1. The airport is small and arrivals are straightforward
  2. Your driver will meet you at the exit
  3. The drive to Soufrière takes approximately 60–90 minutes via the west coast road

Tips for a Smooth Transfer

Book in advance. Especially during peak season (December–April), transfers can be in high demand. Booking ahead guarantees your vehicle and gives us time to confirm your flight details.

Share your flight number. We monitor flight arrivals so that if your flight is delayed, your driver will know and adjust accordingly. You will not be charged for flight delays.

Travel light if possible. The roads to Soufrière are winding, and a lighter vehicle is more comfortable. If you have a lot of luggage, let us know in advance so we can arrange the right vehicle.

Communicate any special requirements. Child seats, wheelchair access, extra luggage space — just let us know when booking and we will make the necessary arrangements.

Return Transfers

We also offer return transfers to both airports at the end of your stay. We recommend booking your return transfer at the same time as your arrival transfer to ensure availability.

For early morning flights (common with transatlantic departures), we will arrange a pre-dawn pickup to get you to the airport in plenty of time.

Book Your Transfer

Our airport transfers are priced per vehicle and include meet-and-greet at arrivals, flight monitoring, and door-to-door service to your accommodation in Soufrière.
